If It's Not One Thing It's Another!!!!!! And Another!!!

IT IS ALWAYS SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A dear friend of mine has been suffering for quite a while from swelling joints and extreme fatigue. Her feet also turn blue when she sits for very long. This last symptom has been happening for a long time, but the doctor had ruled out any circulation problems. She also suffers from pain in her palms, when she especially straightens out her fingers. You can actually feel knots.

She now has been diagnosed with Raynaud's Syndrome. Pronounced ray-NOHZ

Symptoms are numbness and coolness in certain areas of the body in certain circumstances, as for instance the palms.

Fingers, toes, ears and the tip of the nose can often be affected.

There can also be changes in the color of the skin..

Smaller arteries that supply blood to skin may constrict excessively in response to cold.

Raynaud's is often linked with Lupus.

I was very surprised to read that it is not actually an auto immune disease. However, it certainly shares overlapping symptoms.

My friend visited a Rheumatologist for the first time. Recent lab work had necessitated that visit. She has also been diagnosed with Connective Tissue Disease, CTD. It affects the parts of the body that connect the structures of the body together.

These structures are made up of 2 proteins: collagen and elastin.

.

Collagen is a protein found in tendons, ligaments, skin, corneas, cartilage, bone and blood vessels.

It is not uncommon to have genetic predispositions in these situations.

Symptoms include muscle weakness, fatigue, difficulty swallowing in some cases, shortness of breath, fever and weight loss in only certain cases. It can be a part of lupus.

It is many times a relief to finally get a diagnosis for troubling symptoms! And she hopes help in the "exhausting" fatigue!!!!

Would love for anyone to share about their symptoms or journeys in getting a diagnosis.

From Me to U!!!!!

Stay connected!
