WHILE I AM WILD EYED AND BUSHY TAILED, MY HUSBAND JUST SLEEPS AWAY!

That is the case in so many relationships. Of course, my husband has not been as lucky as he has gotten older.

But nevertheless, I think that many women would agree that women have far more troubles sleeping, of course higher rate of insomnia. But there are few things that I believe that are as miserable as insomnia.

Before mentioning more facts about gender differences, I wanted to share some facts from National Geographic on Sleep. The article shares that sleeplessness is on the rise everywhere, which is not the least bit surprising in this fast paced, brightly lit, instant gratification, world of faces plastered on phones, 24-hour-news-cycle society. It then makes our memories foggier. concentration falters, our reflexes and reaction times are slower, and our bodies can be sicker. Heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and dementia can be linked to sleep deprivation the article continues. Many of us remember the sleepless nights of newborns, feeling like it would never end!

In the National Geographic, it talks about a study whereby a student decided to test the effects of sleep deprivation on himself. He did not sleep for 11 days! oooohh 264 hours

By the time he could sleep, he was scared, paranoid, memory fragmented and speech slurred. One reason why I mention this is that some doctors still do not take reported insomnia that seriously in my opinion. I know the importance of sleep hygiene. I always feel kind of amused when the doctor says, "try reading a book." Well, I would if I could keep my eyes open!!!! And if this pounding headache would go away!!! Now, that one is not amusing.

Another key factor about fibro, chronic pain, etc. sufferers is that there are a number of comorbid diseases/disorders that can complicate the mix even more regarding insomnia. A person might suffer from lupes and fibro, with insomnia symptoms. I don't know how the doctor's ever figure it all out! But they do!!!!

Unfortunately, I am one of those patients that has to take a number of medications in order to sleep, and deal with anxiety. And depression. I wish that was not the case. But I am a lucky duck!!!!! 4 little grand children!!!!!!!!!!! How much luckier can you get?!!!!

And I am so blessed with fantastic doctors with all their knowledge and expertise.

From Me to U!!!!
